Adjustments to yoga poses come in a variety of forms including physical, verbal, and energetic. The basic workshop and the observation workshop support intelligent adjustments that address the individual in the moment according to what they need to be aware of in their practice.
Safe and intelligent adjustments should always begin with the experience of actually doing the pose in order to develop an understanding of the intention or quality of the pose. Adjustments are determined according to each students level of ability and experience.
Knowing anatomy and function of the joints helps us to understand more clearly what physical aspects of the body are allowing or restricting ones ability to do a pose. Observation allows us to see more clearly the physical aspect of the pose and where there’s room for change. The adjustment then offers insight into what the student can further explore in the pose physically, mentally or spiritually. Based upon these principles, adjustments are tailored to the individual in the moment.
